Pinecrest Edges Richmond to Sweep Series

Pinecrest 3, Richmond County 2

– Last year: Chances were presented for the Richmond Senior High School baseball team to even its series with Pinecrest High School Friday.

An early lead for the Raiders in the Sandhills Athletic Conference game, however, slipped away in the middle innings and resulted in a 3-2 loss to their Moore County rivals.

A pair of errors led to two of Pinecrest’s runs, which scored its three runs between the fourth and fifth frames.

Friday’s matchup featured a pitchers’ duel between junior Caden Nolan and the Patriots’ Bohdi Robertson. READ MORE.

Patriots Blank Raiders to Open SAC Play

Pinecrest 4, Richmond County 0

– Pinecrest junior Will Chopping was a one-man wrecking crew for the Patriots in their Sandhills Athletic Conference opener against Richmond at home Tuesday.

Chopping threw a two-hitter, and also accounted for three of the four runs scored in a 4-0 win over the Raiders.

The first-year varsity performer struck out 10 batters in his seven innings of action, and his three-run homer in the bottom of the first was more than enough run support in the game.

Sophomore Jack Trythall had the other RBI for Pinecrest. READ MORE.

New Dugout Upgrades Coming Next Year

Construction of a new fieldhouse/dugout combo to begin after season

– Pinecrest’s baseball program will have a new home, not too far from home plate, next season, the program announced last week.

After the baseball locker rooms in the fieldhouse adjacent to the football and baseball fields were converted to girls’ locker rooms for the lacrosse, track, cross country and soccer programs in 2020, the baseball players have not had a permanent locker room. The dugouts were used in the offseason for players to change before workouts, and the senior locker room for the football program has been the temporary locker room in season for the baseball team.

“There are two places I’ve always said in sport that I think are pretty special. The No. 1 spot, and I was a quarterback in high school, and I know teams don’t do it anymore, but the huddle is pretty special,” Pinecrest athletic director and baseball coach Jeff Hewitt said. “The second place for me was the dugout. To be able to have a special place means a lot.”

After the season is over, construction will begin for a 2,750-square-foot fieldhouse/dugout combo on the footprint of the current third-base dugout. Sandhills Building Systems will be the contractor for the project, and president Chris Cleaveland said the company is doing the work pro bono. READ MORE.
